Marion Jones

Marion Jones won 3 gold medals and 2 bronze at the 2000 Olympics held in Sydney, Australia. All the medals and prizes that she had won were taken away from her in 2007 and all her records were erased , because here name was found in the BALCO scandal. The BALCO scandal was a ring that supplied steroids to famous athletes.

Marion Jones later admitted that she used steroids in the Sydney Olympics. She also lied about how she used steroid to two grand juries. She was then convicted of lying in front of a court group and was sent jail to six months. She served her time in jail from March to September 2008.

I felt that she did something wrong ,very wrong that she won't be able to take back. She lied to the whole world and there was probably a lot of kids that thought she was amazing and they idolized her. I know that she had a child and imagine how it would be if she was your mom.

paralympians performance enhancement

Did you know that a gruesome performance-boosting technique amongst disabled athletes, which can involve deliberately breaking bones is being probed at the Paralympics?

Such athletes feel no pain below their injury, and have been known to break a toe, wear pressure stockings, compress their testicles by sitting on ball bearings, or block a urinary catheter to over-fill bladder. This can improve an athlete’s performance by as much as 15 per cent because it boosts their blood pressure. 50 Paralympians with spinal cord injuries are being assessed for “boosting” blood pressure.

Do you think this is cheating?

broken arm

Hi, I broke my arm doing a cat leap on the balance beam at gymnastics. I have a giant cast. I would never take steroids but I wonder if they would help my arm heal quicker.

Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson was a famous Canadian athlete who set two world records for the 100-meter dash. His first record for the 100-meter dash was 9.38 seconds in 1987. In 1988 he set a new world record of 9.79 seconds. In Seoul Korea at the 1988 Olympics Ben Johnson raced and beat out American Carl Lewis for the gold medal. Two days after Ben Johnson won his medal, the Olympic Committee discovered he has been taking steroids. The Olympic Committee took away Ben Johnson's medal and gave it to Carl Lewis instead. Then both of his world records were erased from the world records books. They raced against each other 15 other times from 1980 to 1988. Carl Lewis won 9 times and Ben Johnson won 6 times.

Do you know that steroids can also be good for you? Doctors give them to you for rashes and allergies. Certain steroids are a safe way to treat asthma in kids, but they do have side effects.

Introduction to famous athletes taking steroids

Famous athletes take steroids to make them strong and about two years later they end up on TV confessing then usually going to jail. I picked this topic because I find it very interesting how if you take a type of drug it will make you strong. For example a base ball player tokes them then they could help him hit the ball farther. I am very interested what happens if a synchronized swimmer takes steroids how would it help them in what they do.
