reflection on blogging

I really liked the blogging because you got to choose a topic that you wanted to learn about and that you were interested in. I didn't know allot about my topic when I started and now that I have finished I am very well informed on my topic and I am glad that I choose famous athletes taking steroids for my topic! The challenging part for me was how you had to load the pictures and the video on to your file then past them from your file to blogger. I felt very happy when I got my first comment from a friend. I think the coolest part of blogging was how we wrote in it every week and it was our choice for what we wrote about it. I would love to countine doing the blogging over the year. I think I improved in making my paragraphs more in my wording and adding meaning full pictures and videos. My favorite post that I did was my post on the famous baseball player because the paragraph that I did it in my wording and had a good video and pictures.

Kristina Goryunova and masking agents

Today I will be telling you about Kristina Goryunova a Gymnastics athlete who was going to compete for Russia in the Olympics in 2012. She got caught using medication that she was not allowed to use and is being suspended for a year. The Russian Olympic Federation are not allowing her to compete in the 2012 Olympics which are being held in London! Reporters say that the samples of blood they took from her at the 2009 national championships had parts of forbidden substances like "furosideme analoges". When she heard about the results she said that she was taking a food additive trying to lose weight also said she didn't know it contained anything bad. She is known for her powerful floor exercise and good overall presentation, below is a video of her floor exercise. There are many types of drugs that athletes around the world take that enhance performance, not just steroids.

Furosideme is a "masking agent". It is a diuretic that is a pill that makes you pee and hides drugs that are in your body. There are many common medicines like cold medicines that athletes are prohibited from taking like cough medicine. High level athletes often have doctors review anything that they put in their bodies to make sure they don't have anything in them that they are not allowed to take.

Mark McGwire should make it to the Hall of Fame

Mark McGwire is a famous baseball player who took steroids! After years of people thinking that he was taking drugs, Mark McGwire finally came clean, admitting he used steroids when he broke baseball's home run record in 1998, but he also said he didn't "need performance-enhancing drugs to hit the long ball. I was given a gift to hit home runs". Mark McGwire also said, "there's no pill or injection that's going to give any player the coordination to hit a baseball". He didn't tell any people what type of drugs he took. Below you can see a video of Mark McGwire admitting to using steroids.
I think that if no one found out he took steroids he would have definitely made it into the Hall of Fame . Here are two pictures of Mark McGwire before and after he took steroids. I think people were suspicious because if you look at the first picture he is really skinny and in the second picture he is giant. Mark McGwire broke a record when he hit 70 home runs in 1998 during a race with Sammy Sosa who finished with 66 home runs. I think now after a few years they should put Mark McGwire in the Hall of Fame even though he made the wrong choice of taking steroids because at the same time other people may have been taking steroids but just didn't get caught and they may have made it into the Hall of Fame and it seems unfair to him.

Marion Jones

Marion Jones won 3 gold medals and 2 bronze at the 2000 Olympics held in Sydney, Australia. All the medals and prizes that she had won were taken away from her in 2007 and all her records were erased , because here name was found in the BALCO scandal. The BALCO scandal was a ring that supplied steroids to famous athletes.

Marion Jones later admitted that she used steroids in the Sydney Olympics. She also lied about how she used steroid to two grand juries. She was then convicted of lying in front of a court group and was sent jail to six months. She served her time in jail from March to September 2008.

I felt that she did something wrong ,very wrong that she won't be able to take back. She lied to the whole world and there was probably a lot of kids that thought she was amazing and they idolized her. I know that she had a child and imagine how it would be if she was your mom.

paralympians performance enhancement

Did you know that a gruesome performance-boosting technique amongst disabled athletes, which can involve deliberately breaking bones is being probed at the Paralympics?

Such athletes feel no pain below their injury, and have been known to break a toe, wear pressure stockings, compress their testicles by sitting on ball bearings, or block a urinary catheter to over-fill bladder. This can improve an athlete’s performance by as much as 15 per cent because it boosts their blood pressure. 50 Paralympians with spinal cord injuries are being assessed for “boosting” blood pressure.

Do you think this is cheating?

broken arm

Hi, I broke my arm doing a cat leap on the balance beam at gymnastics. I have a giant cast. I would never take steroids but I wonder if they would help my arm heal quicker.

Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson was a famous Canadian athlete who set two world records for the 100-meter dash. His first record for the 100-meter dash was 9.38 seconds in 1987. In 1988 he set a new world record of 9.79 seconds. In Seoul Korea at the 1988 Olympics Ben Johnson raced and beat out American Carl Lewis for the gold medal. Two days after Ben Johnson won his medal, the Olympic Committee discovered he has been taking steroids. The Olympic Committee took away Ben Johnson's medal and gave it to Carl Lewis instead. Then both of his world records were erased from the world records books. They raced against each other 15 other times from 1980 to 1988. Carl Lewis won 9 times and Ben Johnson won 6 times.

Do you know that steroids can also be good for you? Doctors give them to you for rashes and allergies. Certain steroids are a safe way to treat asthma in kids, but they do have side effects.

Andreea Raucan

Andreea Racaun won a gold medal in the Olympics for gymnastics for Romania, but she cheated. The Olympic Committee found pseudoephedrine in her system and they took away her gold medal. Andreea denied that she took performance enhancing drugs and said she and a cold and took medicine with pseudoephedrine in it. Still the Olympic committee wouldn't give the medal back to her. She went home with no with no gold medal.

Introduction to famous athletes taking steroids

Famous athletes take steroids to make them strong and about two years later they end up on TV confessing then usually going to jail. I picked this topic because I find it very interesting how if you take a type of drug it will make you strong. For example a base ball player tokes them then they could help him hit the ball farther. I am very interested what happens if a synchronized swimmer takes steroids how would it help them in what they do.
